“My First Tattoo: What to Expect and How to Prepare”

Hey—first tattoo? You’re in the right place.

I’m Isaac Delestre, also known as Saito, a tattoo artist based in McKinney, Texas. If you’re feeling excited, nervous, or somewhere in between, that’s completely normal. My goal is simple: to guide you through your first tattoo experience with clarity, confidence, and zero pressure.

From the moment you walk into the studio to the moment you leave with fresh ink, I’ll make sure you know exactly what to expect—and that your first tattoo feels meaningful, comfortable, and unforgettable.

The Consultation: Turning Ideas Into Art

Every first tattoo starts with a conversation. Most clients come in with an idea that holds meaning—whether it’s a tribute, a symbol of growth, or something they’ve been sitting on for years.

During your consultation, we’ll:

  • Talk through your idea and the meaning behind it

  • Refine the design so it fits your style and lifestyle

  • Discuss size, placement, and long-term wear

  • Explore styles like realism, Japanese-inspired work, or fine line

Pro tip: Bring reference images or sketches—even rough ones. You don’t need a finished idea. That’s what the consultation is for.

You can book directly through the Saito Ink website, where you’ll also find FAQs covering deposits and preparation.

Preparing for Your Session

Showing up prepared makes a huge difference—for both your comfort and your tattoo’s outcome.

Here’s how to get ready:

  • Hydrate well for 48 hours before your appointment

  • Eat a solid meal beforehand (never come in on an empty stomach)

  • Avoid alcohol and blood thinners for at least 24 hours

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area

  • Bring essentials: ID, water, headphones, and a relaxed mindset

Cleanliness and safety are always a priority, and I’ll walk you through each step so you feel fully at ease.

During the Tattoo: What It’s Really Like

Here’s how the session usually flows:

Prep & Stencil
The area is cleaned and prepped, the stencil is applied, and you’ll approve placement before we start.

The Tattoo Begins
The outline comes first. Most people describe the feeling as a scratchy sting—totally manageable. Certain areas can be more sensitive, but I’ll guide you through it.

Shading & Detail
This is where everything comes together. Watching the design come to life is always the best part.

Want music? Silence? Conversation? You set the tone. Need a break? Just say so—your comfort comes first.

Aftercare: Protecting Your Ink

Once we’re done, your responsibility is protecting the art.

You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions, including:

  • When and how to wash the tattoo

  • How much lotion to apply (thin layers only)

  • What to avoid during healing (sun, soaking, scratching)

Healing usually takes 2–3 weeks, and I’ll check in afterward. Questions are always welcome.

From My Chair to Your Skin

Watching someone leave the studio with their first tattoo—confident, proud, and smiling—is why I do this. This isn’t just ink. It’s your story, now part of you.

If you’re ready to take that first step, I’m here to make sure your experience is done the right way.

Book your consultation or email Tattoo@saitoink.com
I’ll see you in the chair.
